This retreat includes walking, sitting, and standing meditation practice, simple chanting, discussion, and lunch. Participants are encouraged to engage in their own practice, supported by various meditations methodologies.
The schedule of this Day-Long accommodates all meditation lineages. It’s also designed to support beginners (up to 1,000 hrs), intermediate (5,000 hrs), and advanced practitioners (10,000 hrs).
9am to 11:30am - Practice Period

- 11:00am to 11:30am - Meditation Practice (walking, sitting, lying & standing)
- 11:30am to 12:00pm - Dharma Talk “Race In Our Buddhist Sangha”
- 12:00pm to 12:30pm - Discussion, Questions & Responses
- 12:30pm to 2:00pm - Lunch -Pot Luck. Vegetarian Soup will be Provided
2pm to 4:00pm - Practice Period
- 2:00pm to 2:30pm - Meditation Practice (walking, sitting, lying & standing)
- 2:30pm to 3:15pm - Meditation Practice (walking, sitting, lying & standing)
- 3:15pm to 4:00pm - Meditation Practice (walking, sitting, lying & standing)

Ralph Steele has degrees in Religious Studies, Marriage and Family Therapy and Child Therapy. He has in-depth training and experience in Buddhist psychology, family systems, cultural psychology, cognitive behavioral therapy, and somatic experiencing. He practiced as an ordained monk for one year in the monasteries of Burma and Thailand and has received training from Tibetan meditation masters including Kalu Rinpoche and Lobsang Lhalungpa.
Ralph began teaching meditation retreats in 1987 and was instrumental in establishing people-of-color retreats at Spirit Rock Meditation Center and at the Insight Meditation Society. He founded the first Hospice Care Associates Degree program at Northern New Mexico Community College in the mid 1980’s that is now a Master of Arts program at Southwestern College. He is a board member of Samden Ling, Portland, Oregon, a Tibetan Buddhist center of Adzom Rinpoche. He is the guiding teacher of Life Transition Meditation Center. He is the author of Tending the Fire.
